Diet for Brain power

Just as diet affects your heart, diet can affect your brain. Diet has a major impact on our brain not only in our body. Fruits and vegetables are high in anti oxidants, and they're perfect for information in our brain.

If we eat our fruits and vegetables for to five times a day everyday, You make your brain about five years younger, but we all know that it's hard to get fruits and vegetables everyday, but in general I think you should make an effort to eat or reach for an apple or reach for a pear, get some grapes when you want some snacks. Seafood is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids such as DHA and DHA is the best brain food, so make sure you eat fish 2 or 3 times a week.

High-fiber diet reduces the bad cholesterol, and increase your good cholesterol, good for treating the atherosclerosis, it increase blood flow, so it's absolutely. make sure that you also add a glass of wine every night in your diet but not too much. Remember one glass of wine in dinner is actually good for your brain.

Another tip is to reach for baked potatoes instead of those french fries. Use common sense when it comes to food. If you look at the food and it looks like the food is not good at you then it's not got for you. the bottom line is if you eat fruits and vegetables everyday and eat fish 2 to 3 times a week, your do wonders for your brain, Your brain stay healthy and younger.

Improve Mental Agility

Memory lapses are part of the normal wear and tear that goes a long with middle age. No one is exactly sure why memory goes downhill. But sometimes even though we're still young we tend to forget. Why you forget some things (and not others). Different kinds of memory are created and stored in different parts of the brain and respond differently to aging. Here are some examples:

Episodic memory- The kind that you use to recall the name of a restaurant or the plot of the of a movie you saw week ago. It starts ti decline in your early 40's.

Semantic Memory- the type that gives you the ability to collect and retain new facts and figures. It holds up pretty well, which is why you know what a blog is but forget our dentist's address.

Procedural memory- the kind we draw on for tasks we do automatically, such as driving a car or playing the piano. This is also fairly resilient so even if you can't think of your best friend's phone number, you can press the right keys on the telephone pad.

So how will you build a better brain?

With training people have improved their mental agility after just two weeks, Based on research studies in UCLA's Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human behavior. These strategies can help:

1. Stretch your thinking- Crosswords puzzles have long been touted as mental strengthener. But if crosswords aren't your thing try sudoku, the new number puzzle sudoku.com. Or sign up for a class in a subject new to you.

2. Get moving- Exercise increase s blood flow, which helps nourish brain tissue. It also helps nourish brain tissue. It also helps prevent or control other health conditions that can interfere memory.

3. Eat right- yes, fish really does seem to be brain food - as do nuts and olive oil. All these food contain omega-3 fatty acids, which may slow down brain aging. Antioxidants- found in brightly colored fruits and vegetables, and green tea - also protect brain cells. Coffee boosts attention and alertness, which can enhance learning. But stop after cup or two: Too much has the opposite effect.

4.Create connections- When you need to remember something specific, such as where you parked the car, make associations. The more vivid, the better: If you left car at level 3, section c in the parking garage imagine a billboard flashing "3c" in neon lights.

5. Manage Stress- Try whatever works for you- yoga, gardening, walking. Not only does tension distract you, making it hard to learn and remember things, but it also takes a direct toll on the brain . " In studies, human injected with stress hormones can't learn and or remember" says Dr. Gary Small.

Brain food for your unborn babies

Parenting starts at the womb. The first trimester of pregnancy is a critical period in the development of the unborn child's brain. Expectant moms should be extra cautious during this period because this is when the brain starts to develop. Yet many would- be moms are often clueless on what to eat to help ensure that their babies would not develop any brain defects. Studies show that most pregnant women are not aware of the importance of folate or folic acid in their daily diet. The B-vitamin, commonly found in green leafy vegetables, kidney beans, and asparagus, among other sources, was found to reduce baby's risk of developing defects of the neural tube, an embryonic structure that gives rise to the brain and spinal cord.

Folate deficiency puts the unborn baby at risk of developing the common types of neural tube defects such as spina bifida that usually results in physical disability, or anencephaly, wherein the brain cavity fails to form properly and could prove fatal to the child. Moderate to severe deficiencies of folate may result in enlarged red blood cells, which could lead to low birth weight of the baby. Around 400 to 600 micrograms a day of folate are needed to reduce the risk of neural tube defects up to 80%. To get such amount, pregnant women should eat about 1 cup of cabbage or a lot of kidney beans or tofu everyday. The best alternative, milk formula for pregnant women. It's a good source of folate, and a convenient one.

Alzheimer: Brain Drain Symptoms and risk factors

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, irreversible disease where the nerve cells die and the brain's function deteriorates. It is normal part of aging. People with the condition gradually lose their memory and encounter growing difficulties with language and emotions.

Symptoms vary. Alzheimer's progress depends on the individual and the affected brain areas. A person's abilities may fluctuate from day to day or even within the day, becoming worse in times of stress and, fatigue, and ill health. The one constant: deterioration over time. The early stages are not immediately obvious and may be dismissed as " a passing phase." The following may be noticed:

  • It takes longer to do tasks - The person loses the point of conversation, repeat himself, forget well-known people or places, cannot process questions and instructions, becomes emotionally unpredictable, and slowly loses manual, social, and language skills.
  • Persistent and frequent memory difficulties - especially of recent events. These are often associated with personality change such as aggression or obsession, vagueness in every conversation, and apparent loss of enthusiasm for activities or giving up certain activities.
  • Te person may be unaware of the severity of his problems - This lack of insight is a part of the disease.
  • In more advanced stages, physical symptoms such as weight loss and incontinence may occur.
  • Previously well-learned information and skills may be lost: how to dress, eat, walk, and when to sleep.
  • New behaviors may happen, such as hallucinations or misinterpretations.
Risk Factors
  • Low education levels - Some studies show that low education levels can be related to an increased risk for alzheimer, although the reason is not clearly understood.
  • Head injury - There is a strong link between seroius head injury and the risk of developing Alzheimer's
  • Down syndrome - Having down syndrome or a family history of down syndrome has increased risk for Alzheimer's, although the exact reasons are not known.
  • Sex - Women have slightly greater chance of developing Alzheimer's than men, despite women's longer life span. Scientists are studying if hormone replacement therapy can reduce this risk.
  • Factors linked to heart disease and stroke - New studies suggest that the risk of developing Alzheimer's increases in conditions that damage the heart and blood vessels. These disease include diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and high cholesterol.
  • Family history - Being a first degree relative (child, brother, sister, parent) of someone diagnosed with Alzheimer's increase the risk for developing the disease.
  • Increasing Age - People over the age of 65 have one in eight chance of developing Alzheimer. Estimates show that the prevalence of moderate to sever dementia is 5 percent for people 65 to 79, about 16 percent for people 80 t0 84, and over 24percent for people 85 and older. Although Alzheimer's occurs mostly in the 70's and 80's, it can appear in people showing early symptoms of dementia.
Forgetting, by itself, should not ring alarm bells. Most people experience normal lapses of memory and concentration. With age, memory recalls becomes slower and learning new things takes longer. These may not necessarily be caused by Alzheimer's. Stress, anxiety, and depression may be the usual suspects. Loss of memory with Alzheimer's is persistent, progressive, disruptive, and usually accompanied by certain symptoms.

Understanding Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a kind of disorder were a person suddenly having a seizure and becomes unconscious for unknown reasons. This is cause by the disorder of electrical activity in the brain of the patient that causes unconsciousness.

The most common kind of epilepsy is the one they called idiopathic epilepsy. Epilepsy symptoms of this kind of describes the abnormality of brain cell activity to a patient for unknown reasons, followed by what they called aura in which the patient looks like hes being electrocuted from hands to toe, it also affects the sense of smell and taste of a person who has epilepsy seizure. The patient also experience convulsion. but sometimes convulsion are cause by tumor in the veins or poison from drug. Some signs of idiopathic epilepsy are headache, dizziness and frequent yawning even though your not sleepy.

Children or adult who has epilepsy, can control the epilepsy by correct medication, drugs like phenytoin and carbamazephine are effective drugs in controlling epilepsy. For the dosage of drugs others try trial for the right dosage of drugs, the dosage decrease if the patient are not experiencing convulsion after two years.
