Risk of having Atherosclerosis

Athero....what? That is the first question i asked my friend (MD) while she is trying to explain what exactly it is. Coming from the geek words athero(gruel or paste) and sclerosis (hardness). Atherosclerosis involves deposits of fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste products, and other substances in the artery 's inner lining. Called plaque this build up usually affects both large and medium sized arteries.

It starts as early as childhood. A slow complex disease, it often progresses as people age. In some people though the progress is more rapid and happens even in their twenty's Scientists believe that this disease begins with damage to the innermost layer artery, called endothelium.

Researchers show that males and those with family history of premature cardiovascular disease have a greater risk of atherosclerosis.Unfortunately these factors cannot be controlled. However, reducing the controllable risk factors of atherosclerosis prove to be beneficial: these controllable risk factors include:

  • High blood cholesterol
  • Cigarette smoking /exposure to tobacco smoke
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Obesity
  • Physical inactivity

knowing these factors, you should be able to control it in your own ways like lose weight, eat well-balanced diet. quit smoking, try to expose yourself to outdoor activities or engage into different sports. A healthy body should have a healthy heart, So love your heart and add more years to your life.

I'm Already 10 weeks Pregnant

I'm on my 10th week now. So far so good. I'm gaining appetite again which I can say is a good news because I used to hate eating in my first few weeks of being pregnant. I even lose weight form 100lbs to 103lbs to 98lbs. I hope I could gain more weight for my baby. I often feel some pain in my lower back which according to most people is normal because of my expanding uterus. I'm now starting to crave for food, like the other day I was craving for an Almond jelly and Panacotta I'm just so blessed because my hubby is always there to support me and he's really very patient of me now that I'm having some mood swing. They said that 10th week is the start of a crazy emotional changes, I'm not yet sure about.... but I'm starting to feel wasted and lazy maybe it's because of my high body temperature that make me feel irritated easily. And of course the never ending peeing, I sometimes cry myself because I could sleep continuously because I have to pee. I'm still nauseated at times but unlike before I only feel like vomiting when I smell something I don't like.
I still haven't shown yet, only people close to me notice the small bump I have, there are also times that I don't feel like I'm pregnant. Just like the other day, on our way to my office, I told my hubby that I don't feel like I'm pregnant that day but after a few minutes I felt something in my tummy that make me want to puke, it funny it's like my baby was trying to tell me that he is somewhere inside me and I don't have to worry about him of her.

Pregnant women with Diabetes should Monitor their Weight

It is important for pregnant women with diabetes to monitor their weight.
I just got a message from a diabetic friend that she's pregnant, so i did my research and send her this:

You should monitor your weight and food intake.

Drastic increase in weight approximately 6.5 pounds per month contributes to insulin resistance' while weight gain of only half a pound per week (or less than 2 pounds per month ) is a sign that you and your baby are not receiving sufficient nourishment.

you should receive a total of40% to 50% of your daily caloric count from carbohydrates make sure these are spread throughout the day. Low carb intake may result in hypoglycemia, while too much carb intake will elevate your blood sugar levels. Time and plan your day's first and last meals no more than 10 hours apart to avoid low blood sugar.

Choose food rich in complex carbs such as high-fiber breads, oatmeal, whole wheat and brown rice. Avoid refined sugars and sweets as well as instant noodles and processed breakfast cereals.

Protein should compromise 20% to 25% of your daily diet, limiting fat too only 30% (monounsaturated and Omega-3) Limit your sodium intake to less than 1/10 tsp per meal.
Evey pregnant women should watch what they eat, because they are eating for two. But Diabetic women should be more concern about their weight and food consumption.

Women should know Cervical Cancer

Cervix cancer can be seen in the neck of the uterus and it's extended up to the vagina. This cancer is 100 % curable if diagnosed earlier or of it still at the early stages and i mean very early stages.
The symptoms of cervix cancer are the following:

  • Vaginal spotting or bleeding in between menstrual period.
  • Bleeding after a sexual intercourse
  • Abnormal flow of menstruation
There are no visible symptoms if it's still in a very early stage. Based on research studies, It's been seen that there is a relation between Herpes simplex 2 or genital herpes with cervix cancer. Woman who usually diagnosed with this kind of cancer are :
  • women who belongs to low socio economic status and the possibility that they we're once very sexually active in their younger years.
  • Women who had many sexual partners are also prone to this cancer.
  • Those who had many children.
  • And those who have uncircumcised husband.
If this cancer are diagnosed early. It can be 100% curable. But if the cancer is already confined in the cervix, there' will be 70 % to 90% chances of survival 5 years after the treatment. If the surrounded tissues are already invaded by cancer, There will be 40 % to 60 % chances of survival 5 years after the treatment. If the cancer is already in the bladder and rectum, there will be 20% chances of survival. If it spread in lymph nodes. The survival percentage will decrease.
Is cervix cancer contagious? No. There are two modes of therapy for the treatment of this cancer:

  1. Surgical removal of cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and the lymph nodes around it. The ovaries can be remove. It really doesn't depends on the age and the extent of the cancer.
  2. Radiation therapy. It can be the special x- ray machine or radioactive implants.

These two treatments are highly recommended. Annual pap smear is the best thing to do for early detection.

Avoid Hepatitis B

Because there is no effective medicine that will actually cure Hepatitis B. But instead an alternative supplemental vitamin is given to any patient oh Hepatitis B like essentiale and Jetefar for the affected liver and the rest of the medicine given are just for calming the body of the Hepa B. patient.

the symptoms and signs that a person has Hepatitis b are the following:

* yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes
* Diarrhea or vomiting
* Pain in joints ,muscles, or even stomach
* Tiredness
* Loss of appetite

For example if the affected person is suffering from headaches. He will be given analgesic, and if he has a fever he will be advised to take paracetamol. Eating sweets like fruits, candies, chocolates can help, and avoiding too much fatty foods is also advisable. fatty foods is really bad for swollen liver. Foods like milk, eggs,soy milk, cheese, yogurt, peanut butter, lean meat are good source of protein. Carbohydrates and Protein rich foods are also essential nutrients for Hepa B. patients.

In time, the level of virus will decrease, and the affected person will recover. And the health will be back to normal. Prevention is always better than cure so make sure that everybody in the family is vaccinated.It is usually given in three shot series, but the good thing about this is you;ll never get infected or have hepatitis b ever.

Also try to avoid to do things that may lead to Hepatitis B. such as unprotected sex, as well as things that might have someone else's blood on them, such as a razors or toothbrush. by doing this. You will be sure that the virus will never get you

Based on studies led by Japanese researchers. Women who add coffee to their daily diet may reduce the risk of having uterine cancer. This was led by the Japanese ministry who monitored 54,000 women ages 40 to 69 in over 15 years.

In those years of studies they've found out that 117 women developed cancer of the uterus, Reported by the medical team. Japan's National Cancer Center researchers divided those women into 4 groups, based on how much coffee intake. It was shown that the group who take coffee more than 3 time a day has over 60% lower chances to develop uterine cancer compared to those who take coffee 2 times a week.
