Give your Love handles the right form

A large number of people have trouble with "love handles." Far from being lovely or lovable, these are deposits of fat on the sides of one's lower torso, around the external oblique muscles.

Traditional crunches and sit-ups will not do much for this, as they mainly work the abdominal muscles and not the obliques.

The good news, however, is that there are a few stomach exercises which specifically target the obliques, helping to get rid of love handles.

1. Side Bend

A simple exercise, side bends are also probably the most effective method for getting rid of love handles. Start by standing upright. Position your feet shoulder width apart and bend your knees slightly. Lower your whole torso to one side, then back to the other. Lean only side to side, not backwards or forwards.

2. Torso Twist

This stomach exercise is also effective at reducing love handles, and is good to do right after the side bends in your routine, as it is also done in a standing position. Again, with feet shoulder width apart, slowly twist the body to one side, then to the other. The key here is to twist from your torso, not from the hips. As much of the twisting work as possible should be done by your oblique muscles, not your hip flexors. Keep your torso upright with no bending.

3. Side Crunch

The next two stomach exercises require you to get off your feet and lie down, preferably on the floor or other flat surface. Use a mat or towel as a cushion if you have a particularly hard floor to work with. Lie down on one side. For simplicity, let us say you are on your right side to start. Bring your right arm across your waist so that your right hand comes to rest on your left side. Touch your ear with the fingertips of your left hand, so that your left elbows winds up pointing straight upward. Lift your shoulders up off the floor while simultaneously raising your left leg to height of about twelve inches (30 cm). Contract your obliques as you do this. Hold for a few seconds, then gently lie back down. Do this for an entire set, then switch to the right side.

4. Seated Knee Drop

First, position yourself on the floor so that you are resting on your hipbones (not sitting on your butt). You can put your hands on the floor behind you to keep yourself stable in this position. Bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the floor. Put your ankles together. Now lower your knees to the right. Your feet will roll on to their sides, but should remain on the floor. Continue this lowering move until your knees are about six inches above the floor. Hold for one second, then go back up and down to the left side. Move slowly and under control, using your stomach muscles rather than momentum to raise and lower your legs.

As with any new physical activity, consult a professional before beginning and be sure to properly warm up to avoid injury.

Still skinny after eating a lot all the time

Are you still bothered with your sister, friend, neighbor who eats a lot but stays slim and never gain a pound? Here's something that you must read

Our body shapes and sizes vary because we have different metabolic rates or metabolism. The determinants of the metabolic rates are sex, the amount of exercise that we do everyday, age and the amount of muscle compared to fat. These are the main reason why our body shapes differs from one another. So don’t think that if one is so skinny, he probably is choosy when eating. There are times that our metabolism are affected by the hormonal factors or genetics. So no longer wonder if you know someone who eat like there’s no tomorrow, and stays very thin.

Males and Females have different metabolic rates, Women have lower metabolic rates than those of the men, and testosterone is the reason behind it. We learned from school that the responsible for the “manly matters” among their aspect when it comes to physiological is none other than testosterone. This includes the muscle growth. We also know that Women has lesser muscles than men, this is the reason why men has lower metabolic rates. Women have progesterone and estrogen as sex hormones.

When it comes to age, The children, infants and teenagers have higher metabolic rates, because children, infants and teenagers are the age groups that have active growth hormones. Now, these human active growth hormones are not given to matured adults this may lead to some problems. These are only given to children who are suffering from abnormal growing rate.

Pregnant women have higher metabolic rates and especially those breastfeeding, I so agree with this as I’m a living proof of how fast my metabolic rates nowadays. And to maintain these higher-than-normal metabolic rates, an exercise daily is such a great help.

Do you think that exercising in the evening better than other times of the day?

Doesn’t matter, There is no studies that prove that time does affect the effects of exercise in our body. The best idea is to exercise at your own convenient time. Try to do this three times a week and you will definitely see results. So don’t worry or don’t bother if your sister never gain a pound even if she eats like there’s no tomorrow. Metabolism differs.

Lose your Holiday Weight Gain 2011

Thanksgiving, Christmas, New year. So many holidays and of course........ feast! who doesn't love to eat right? especially when everybody is enjoying eating and having fun. But of course sometimes we tend to forget our diet, counting calories, food portions. etc. I'm sometimes guilty of this too.

Here are some tips that hope to help you lose some holiday weight gain.

1. Eat fruits and vegetables. They'll give you more food and less calories. You just came out of holiday feast so better start eating healthy foods and gain power not fat.

2. Spice things up. A little salsa can add a lot of flavor to a baked potato-and for few calories. I know, many people may not like to eat boring or bland healthy foods. So spice up your food a little.

3. For sweets. just grab low-fat yogurt instead of ice cream. There are many low fat yogurts around nowadays. You might thought of grabbing a low fat ice cream, but better not.

4. Besides cutting calories, a high fiber diet help prevent cancer, heart disease and digestive illness. So wake up with an oatmeal breakfast or just get a high fiber lunch and your off to lose weight.

5. Exercise everyday. Oh yes! You ate a lot last holiday, so lose that fat!

Everything may seem to be very hard, but i still think that if you put your heart to it. I mean discipline is one major key to lose weight! We still have few more holiday feasts to come so if you think you are having a hard time to lose weight. Then control yourself.

The Pilates Principle

Joseph Pilates then went on to create " the six principles of pilates" in order to properly condition the entire body. They are breathing, centering concentration, control , precision and flowing movement.

Breathing enhances proper blood circulation, which in turn stimulates cells in the body and carries away wastes that can cause fatigue. For blood to function optimally, it has to be charged with oxygen and purged of waste through proper breathing. Full and thorough inhalation and exhalation are thus an integral part of every pilates exercise.

Centering involves the large group of muscles found in the center of the body, called the "powerhouse" in pilates- the abdomen, lower back, hips and buttocks. All the energy exerted doing pilates exercises begins from the powerhouse the "core"

Concentration demands careful attention and intense focus. Every position and movement of every part of the body is interrelated. Control simply means no unnecessary and uncontrolled movements.

Slower movements make your strength and coordination grow. Practitioners also perform every exercise with utmost control, in order to avoid injury. Precision aims to accomplish unified (flowing), precise and perfect movements through appropriate transitions, rather than many halfhearted or disjointed ones. The end goal is for precision to eventually become second nature, and carried over into everyday life as grace and economy movement. Once precision is archived the exercises are intended to flow within and into each other in order to build strength and stamina.

Josep Pilates once said " Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. In order to achieve happiness, it is imperative to gain mastery of your body. If at the age 30 you are still stiff and out of shape, you are old. If at 60 you are supple and strong, then you are young"

My top 10 New year's Health Resolution for 2010

1 more day and 2009 will be in history, We welcome the new year 2010. and leave all the bad news from 2009 and cherish the good times from 2009. I have my list of New year resolution, but I also have my new year's health resolution. Here are the top 10 health resolution I have listed:

  1. Getting back on my Healthy Diet = And lose some weight, because of too many celebrations this past holiday month and if there's celebration there are delicious food (sometimes are unhealthy), that we can't resist. That's why this holiday month, I have some problems on my Healthy diet, Because of that I gain some weight. I can't seems to follow mt diet. So I promise my self that after all this celebrations. I will be back on my healthy diet.
  2. Getting back on my exercise routine = Because of the holidays (celebrations, parties) like my diet, I sometimes skip my exercise routine, I miss biking, running, the only exercise I do this holiday season is walking because of shopping for gifts. So exercise is still on my new year's health resolution.
  3. Eliminate or reduce stress = In this modern day life, everyone more often experience a stressful life. Stress can lead to hypertension, poor digestion, a weakened immune system and many other conditions. Thus everyone needs to de-stress. I promise myself to spend some more time with my family and friends or trying new things or hobbies. Take a break if the stress is too hard to handle.
  4. Get an 8 hour sleep = yeah I think this past year I really don't have an 8 hour sleep, poor me. so I promise myself to be more organized in terms of managing my time so I can have a 8 hour sleep. Because sleep deprivation cause me a lot of stress.
  5. Drink only water and herbal teas= this past year I already try this drink only water thing, and avoid soda's I'll just continue the water therapy and add some herbal teas on my drinks.
  6. Increase my health awareness= for me to achieve a happy and healthy life, by knowing about many aspects of health can go a long way.By knowing about common health problems, their symptoms and prevention techniques, along with things like important vitamins and minerals, proper skin care and correct posture, will allow me and my family to prevent many diseases from this coming new year.
  7. Have a Regular Medical Check-up = This is one of the most ignored aspects of a healthy lifestyle, specially in my family we don't really have a regular medical check-up. So I promise myself that this coming year I'll try to tell my family to have a regular check-up and screen for potential health ailments, after all, prevention is better than cure. Because health should not be avoided and a visit to the doctor should not be taken for granted.
  8. Have a Healthy skin = that's clean, clear and smooth is our best beauty accessory. A glow cannot be fake. The next is a healthy set of teeth and fresh breath.
  9. Take some Vitamins regularly = Taking vitamins is the one thing I really didn't so this past year and I' regret it. Vitamins can really give me a huge advantage against flu's, viruses ailments and stress, specially this coming new year.
  10. Smile often = A smile can really make a difference.
Have a Happy Healthy New Year to All of Us.

Can't get to a gym regularly? or can't afford the overwhelming membership fee? That doesn't mean you have to become a couch potato. With the right equipment no fancy gadgets needed either, you can get intense, full body workout in your living room. According to some fitness experts all you need are these five items, and they are come cheap, you can keep them in your closet and available in almost all fitness stores and online stores. Here are the list:

  • Jump rope (100 to 300 pesos) 2 to 6 $
  • A step bench ( about 400 pesos) 8 $ - any six-inch-tall, sturdy platform will do, you don't need to get a multilevel aerobics platform.
  • A set of ankle weights ( 150 pesos) 2 $
  • An exercise ball (600 pesos) 12 $
  • Dumbbells (75 to 300 pesos) 1 to 6$ - ideally, look for a set of three pairs 2, 5 and 10 lb.
With this five simple fitness pieces, you can work the entire body by doing all kinds of exercises such as:
  • weight work
  • stretches
  • power crunches
  • cardio
Combining the the five items and creating a training circuit or you can create your own routine. Where you do a variety of exercises, one right after the other, burns calories and make you stronger. For some ideas on specific exercises to include to your routine. rent or buy some work out books or search on the internet for some basic exercise where you can use those items. The equipment seems no-brainer, but if you don't use it correctly, you risk getting hurt.
Some tips:
  • When you jump rope, keep a slight bend in your knees, and land in the balls of your feet not flat.
  • While doing step work, keep your knees aligned over your ankles.
  • Also lead with your heel and land with the whole foot on the center of the step.
  • When using weights, keep your elbows soft and slightly bent.
